    Are you ready to learn about the periods the dinosaurs lived in? What is a dinosaur? Dinosaurs were one of several kinds of prehistoric reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era, the "Age of Reptiles." During this time the earth looked very different than it does now. The climate was warmer and the seasons were mild. Even the shape of the continents on Earth was different. The continents were jammed together at the beginning of the Mesozoic Era. These would start breaking apart toward the middle of the Mesozoic Era.

        The Mesozoic Era lasted about 180 million years, and is divided into three periods, the Triassic, the Jurassic, and the cretaceous. There were no dinosaurs at the beginning of the Triassic, but there were many amphibians and some reptiles.
