Parent Response: Thursday Nights

Students should always read orally on Thursday nights. Students should write on their log about their reading and parents should write their child a note in their RRJ about their reading that night.

 
  What should I write in my child's journal on Thursday nights?

A note telling your child:

  • what you think may happen next

  • what the story reminded you of Example: When Jack and Annie got lost in the Amazon it reminded me of the time we went for a walk and we got lost. Remember all of the things that we saw? I especially remember....

  • why you were proud of their reading that night

  • how he/she may be like/not like a character in the story

  • what you notice about the character's feelings Example: I think Jack is feeling sad because...

  • your opinion of a character's actions Example: I would not like to be friends with the character because.... or I think the character's choice was _________because....
