MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

The following policies govern each student’s participation in the group:

CONCERT ATTENDANCE -- It is expected that singers will attend all scheduled concerts and combined  rehearsals.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A CONFLICT -- Naturally, as many parents tell me “Life happens” and often a conflict arises after the calendar is published and contract signed.

It is the school’s belief that each child is essential for a successful performance.  In the event of a conflict, it is the responsibility of the parent to alert the director immediately.  There’s even a spot on the contract for conflicts known in September.  Naturally, a satisfactory resolution to both parties will first be sought.  If a resolution is unattainable,  the student will be expected to “pay back” the ensemble in some fashion.  This may take the form of a written,  public apology or a meeting with the Middle School administrative team.  In some cases detention will be the appropriate recourse.

REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE -- Each voice is an equally important and vital part of the Middle School Girls’ Chorus, therefore committed and regular attendance at rehearsals and concerts is expected.  Singers are expected to be in place with their folders in hand at the appointed rehearsal time.  Please avoid asking for excusal from rehearsals due to outside of school doctors’ appointments and extra help needs.  We have less than 80 minutes each week to provide a comprehensive musical experience for your child.   We regret that we cannot honor personal requests for excusal.  Consistent abuse of the attendance policy is a matter of extreme concern for the entire group and will be handled jointly by the director and middle school administration.

Reminder: Rehearsals take place during school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 – 2:40 PM.

REHEARSAL DEFICIENCIES – are given by the director for inappropriate conduct during rehearsal (i.e. lateness, gum chewing, disruptive talking.)  Three rehearsal deficiencies will result in a conversation with the singer about their membership.   The first three rehearsals are considered a provisional period for all NEW singers.  This is the “guilt free” zone.  During this time, the singers and director decide if MS Chorus is a good match for the student.  Beyond the provisional period, all singers are expected to sustain their membership through the semester.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS are invited to attend rehearsals and encouraged to call Mrs. Runge at school if they have any questions.
