Pingry Middle School Girls’ Chorus

Committed to Artistry

Dear Parents of Middle School Girls,

Welcome!  As a result of a recent in-school voice placement, your daughter has been recommended to participate in the Middle School Girls’ Chorus at Pingry.  The mission of this ensemble is to enrich young lives through the study and artistic performance of a wide variety of choral music.  In our dedicated ensemble of young musicians, each singer realizes her uniqueness as a person and an artist and develops character strengths for a lifetime.

The chorus has many opportunities to perform both at Pingry and throughout the community.  In recent years, Pingry students have been invited to sing and play in many local festivals and events.  This year the Chorus will be featured on all three of Pingry’s major music concerts:  The Festival, The Middle School Festival, and The Antoine DuBourg Spring Festival.  (Calendar with dates is enclosed.)  As a special added highlight, the chorus will travel on Friday, March 7th, 2008 to share their talents at the noontime Brown Bag concert series at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit.  

Chorus rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 2:40 PM in Rm. 264 in the Music Wing.   The rehearsals do not interfere with academic or athletic responsibilities.  We ask that you respect the rehearsal time and refrain from scheduling appointments for your child during our rehearsal slots.  If your daughter has chosen band, strings, or handbells, she can both sing and play as she attends one instrumental rehearsal and one chorus rehearsal for a total of two rehearsals per week.   Also, there are two additional Conference Periods per week in which your child can seek extra help from her teachers.

Membership in the Chorus is both an honor and a privilege.  Please take a moment to discuss this opportunity with your daughter and encourage her to take part.  You’ll find a list of all rehearsals and concert dates for the year at the conclusion of this letter.  Please note them on your calendar.  Kindly fill out and return the enclosed chorus contract to me by Thursday, September 27th.  If you have any questions, or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at school (908-647-5555 ext. 1349) or email at jrunge@pingry.org.  I would be happy to discuss your daughter’s involvement and answer any questions you may have.
