As an educator, I see schooling as a center for
Inquiry: a place where one can grow, and enhance the discussion of educational
issues. In such a place, everyone becomes a resource, student, teacher,
parent, administrator, staff, by following the humanistic approach where
dialectics between the individual and teaching clarify issues of how one
experiences the world. This process demands the highest personal critical
standards to maintain intellectual integrity. My own educational
experience has been a diverse, multicultural one. I have learned that any
intellectually developmental experience requires constant reevaluation.
The importance of interpretation, the need for insight, for understanding,
collegiality, trust, acceptance, tolerance, are necessary to determine
priorities in setting goals while looking out for gaps. This is not an
easy task, but one that can be accomplished by involving everyone to define
aspirations and principles in creating a mission. I believe that
Independent School education is one in which "The job is not ours to finish, but
neither are we free not to do it." (Talmud) |
