Hello all 1-O
visitors. Welcome to Mrs. Ogden's First Grade Web page !
Let's take a closer look at all of the fun
things we do each day.
A Day In The Life
of a 1-O Student:
8:10-8:30 Morning
Circle
(Monday-Friday)
8:30-9:30-
Math time! Working with manipulatives and adding and subtracting numbers. Working with 100's chart. Working with geometric shapes and time and money. So much math so little time....
9:30- 10:10 Reading
* We read
literature books, guided reading centers, basal reader or work in reading
centers. All focus is on the individual
levels of each student.
10:10-10:30 Recess ( most days)
10:30-11:10 Either writer's workshop, author study or writing skills goes on at this time. Some of the authors we study are: Tomie dePaola, Leo Lionni, MemFox, Helen Lester, Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard.
11:10-11:45 Lunch (Hot or cold offerings each day).
11:45-12:30- Out we go! Recess time.
12:30-1:10- Social Studies. Our favorite time of the day. In the fall we learn all about communities (school, farm, town). Then in early December we move into our unit on Antarctica and penguins. In late January we are ready for the tropics of the rain forest. Then as the year winds down we travel "down-under" to learn all about the aborigines and the the animals of Australia. "G'day Mate."
Science, Library, Computers, Music, Spanish are all a part of our week as well.
We finish each day in gym class. Friday is game day ~the ultimate!
That is what we do in first grade. We are busy and happy and all growing like flowers.
