The "1000 Minutes Club" has been part of the Pingry music experience since 2004. The goal of the 1000 Minutes Club is to promote regular practice of musical instruments with positive reinforcement and recognition here at school.
Students are issued a practice log, and should keep track of their daily practice time. It is recommended that students practice a minimum of 100 minutes per week (150 minutes is preferred for strong musical growth).
Equally important to the number of minutes practiced is the distribution of those minutes across the weekly schedule. Daily practice is best. Cramming practicing into a weekend or other time of week is not effective. In playing musical instruments, muscles need to be trained. As we all know, one long workout each week does not have the value that shorter, daily workouts have. The same is true of practicing musical instruments.
Parents are asked to sign student practice logs each week. When a student accumulates 1000 minutes of practice, their names will be posted on the Practice board in the music room. They are presented with a "1000 Minutes Club" t-shirt or award star in class. Also, these students will be recognized at our concerts by being listed in the program.

"Lesson" column on log refers to the small group lesson day at school. That is the day that practice logs are checked.)
