2007-08 Chorus Anthem texts
FIFTH GRADE
SPRING 2008
PETER PIPER by Lon Beery
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers;
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked;
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
(That's not only hard to say, it's hard to type!!)
FIFTH GRADE OPERA
SELECTIONS
Note: Words to the 5th Grade Opera selections were written by 5th graders
"What Life Was Like"
Peace on earth, Nothing wrong, Love reigns, Nothing sad.
No trouble now. Trouble? No trouble now.
"Epimetheus and the Box"
(Chorus words)
Yes, yes, yes, yes...He wonders what's
inside...
"Pandora's Hubris Aria"
(Chorus words)
...Maybe just a peek to see what's
inside...why should she hide this curious feeling?
What's inside this box must be very appealing...
She'll have to be a sly, young fox.
She won't care if the gods find out, she likes to see Epimetheus pout!
Wait a sec...
People say to be hubristic is never Hellenistic...
But that is clearly unrealistic.
She's feeling rather fatalistic. It makes her have to GO BALLISTIC!
This box is driving her mad!
SIXTH GRADE
GIRLS
JA-DA (B. Carleton)
You've heard all about your raggy
melodies, ev'rything from op'ra down to harmony.
But I've a little song that I will sing to you, it's gonna win you through and
through.
There ain't much to the words but the music is grand, and you'll be a-singin' it
to beat the band.
Maybe you've heard of the hula or fling, but here's my fav'rite ditty to sing.
It goes Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing,
Jing, Jing.
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing, Jing.
That's a funny little bit of melody. It's so soothing and appealing to me,
it goes
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing, Jing.
Now ev'ryone was singin' and swayin' in
time, dancin' to the music and makin' up rhyme.
The band would play the Charleston and the Buck and Wing; we told 'em we would
rather sing.
They played a cakewalk and the bunny hug, the cha-cha, the rhumba, the
jitterbug.
But we still wanted them to learn our song; we told 'em just to follow along.
It goes Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing,
Jing, Jing.
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing, Jing.
That's a funny little bit of melody. It's so soothing and appealing to me,
it goes
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing,
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing,
Ja-Da, Ja-Da, Jing, Jing, Jing.
Ja-Da, Jing, Jing, Jing!

OLD JOHN PINGRY (C. Brett Boocock 1960)
Study scion of New England, Old
John Pingry we hail,
He came down to Jersey armed with resolve that knowledge should prevail.
In his clerical collar and his long frock coat, with an aura of dignity and
right,
He founded a school whose fame will endure for whose glory we all shall fight.
Chorus: Oh ring the bell for old John Pingry, shout his name as never
before.
Godly man of faith triumphant, honor him forevermore.
Mighty man of strength and wisdom, Old
John Pingry we hail,
He taught from the Bible, guide book of old, that rev'rence should prevail.
With deliberate manner and commanding air he imparted his knowledge and his
name,
And now Pingrians praise gladly again the headmaster of song and fame.
Chorus: Oh ring the bell for old
John Pingry, shout his name as never before.
Godly man of faith triumphant, honor him forevermore.
