5th Grade Instrumental Ensembles:  Band, Strings, and Handbell Choir

The 5th Grade Band, Strings, and Handbell Choir meet weekly for rehearsal in addition to Chorus and General Music classes.  Students are issued a folder containing music for study and performance.  The Band, Strings, and Handbell Choir perform at regularly scheduled concerts during the school year, with occasional additional performance opportunities.

Students who play brass, woodwind, and other band instruments, are strongly encouraged to participate in the Band.  Students playing string instruments are similarly encouraged to participate in the Strings.  The Handbell Choir is designed primarily for those students who do not play band or orchestra instruments, in order to provide them with an ensemble experience.

Band and Strings students are expected to bring their instruments and music folders each day they have a scheduled rehearsal or instrumental class (see below).

Instrumental Classes

Students participating in Band are also scheduled for instrumental classes.  These classes group similar instruments together and are used for continuing musical development in instrumental proficiency.  Students are asked to purchase a lesson book to use in class.  Instrumental classes meet during non-academic periods, so students do not miss their other classes in order to participate.

While the instrumental classes are helpful in musical development, they are not a substitute for private instrumental lessons.  Students wishing to achieve maximum development in their instruments are encouraged to study privately.
