5th Grade General Music Grading Policy
The following are graded on student report cards. Each phrase is followed by an explanation of what I am grading on or looking for.
Vocal Pitch, Tone,
and Range: Singing is a major part of the curriculum. While
students are not all expected to be star singers, improvement during the year is
attainable and expected. Participation in class should result, in most
cases, in a stronger voice.
Music Reading Skills: as evidenced by reading
choral music, composed music, and other music used in class
Growth in Musical Thinking: this applies to
processing musical concepts and applying them in new situations. Musical
thinking plays a large part in singing, listening, analyzing, composing, arranging music, etc.
Class Participation: Students are expected to
sing the warmups and classroom songs with effort and energy, answer questions
posed to the class, and participate with enthusiasm in class activities.
General Music Concepts (non-performance skills):
Recorders, music composition, music listening, music appreciation concepts, and
other class activities not related to performing music
Ensemble: Band students
receive grades on report cards.
